an explination of my interests on my userinfo page. )

yesterday i went with lyle to go pick up his paycheque. we then walked to eastgate square mall in stoney creek to do some stuff. i got gum! oh, right, and bras. i'm so happy, i don't have to have the bras that make the underwire puncture my lungs anymore. one is neon orange (lyle likes it best) and one is neon green. i am so happy :D

we went out to dinner at east side mario's and i got to have funnel cake so i'm a happy shae. we came home and watched van wilder, and had a drink. i stayed up late and angsted.

this morning visa decided to call me up and let me know i missed a payment. visa is too nice. they're like "WELL HOW LONG DO YOU THINK IT'LL BE UNTIL YOU CAN PAY IT?" "... uh... i oono." "OKAY HOW ABOUT THE 16TH. HAVE A GREAT DAY SORRY FOR BOTHERING YOU BYEBYE."

i woke up @ 2 today and lyle is doing the dishes and i am entertaining (rather unsuccessfully) [info]kbc, [info]wicked_wit, and [info]cello with tales of debauchary and intrigue.

... well not really but i can pretend, right? D:

one nation, under apathy [03 Sep 2005|06:07pm]

So I've been watching a lot of CNN lately.

And I have to say, kudos to the United States of America, for making me have a bigger distaste for humanity than ever before.

Sadly, I have relatively no sympathy for the people in Louisiana and Alabama suffering from the recent hurricanes. Your cities had a mandatory evacuation in place. And if you somehow magically couldn't escape in the two days provided, well, you shouldn't have decided to live in a swamp land that relies on a bunch of walls for safety. I don't care how many years your grandpappy farmed that land for. It's a chance, you took it, and now, somehow, you're owed something.

And even though I don't care, I still marvel at the general incompetence the situation is being handled with.

That's right. I'm an insensitive bitch. But when that country starts saying things about how it's the greatest demorcracy on Earth, I raise a brow in surprise. Or is it disgust?

Citizens of the cities hit hardest are fighting the National Guard. Wide-spread looting, violence, and mob mentalities have taken over. In a time when a city needs it's citizens to band together most, a group of people decide it'd be a better idea to show their displeasure at... Nature, I guess, by hindering rescue efforts, and the attempt to start fixing things.

I guess those 30 boxes of Nike shoes mean more than the family trapped on the second floor of their house, dehydrating and dying.

As much as I hate it when it comes down to 'my country is better than yours' for such and such a reason, I can't help but think of what would happen if tragedy struck Canada.

I know for a fact it wouldn't be the incompetent show the states is currently putting on. I know the Canadian army has nothing better to do than shovel snow, so they wouldn't be standing on the sidelines, watching a militia form out the back of a water-logged 7-11.

Why did it take your President so long to acknowledge anything? Was he too busy on his vacation? Trying to think of a way to blame this on terrorism? Why weren't aid missions set up from the begining? Everyone knew it was happening, and yet nothing was done. I don't like how the media is making the people who ARE working in the area out to be heros, because they're drawing the attention away from the fact that everyone decided to take a nap about 10 hours before the hurricane hit.

So, to the land of the free, to those who say they live in the 'greatest democracy on Earth', I ask you to please, shut up, take a look at the types of people your society is creating, and start piling sandbags in anticipation for the next hurricane.

Nature is inevitable population control. Maybe if you didn't live on a swamp I'd be more sympathetic. But probably not by much. And now, a musical interlude by one of my favourite Canadian bands, The Tragically Hip. If you know what band I'm talking about, you can see the hilarity.

Bourbon blues on the street, loose and complete
Under skies all smokey blue-green
I can't forsake a dixie dead-shake
So we danced the sidewalk clean
My memory is muddy, what's this river that I'm in?
New Orleans is sinking man and I don't wanna swim
