anybody who's talked about canada to me has immediately been instantly bored and disinterested because i always bring up canadian politics.

i can't help it. american politics are this huge, orchestrated, funded game to play for all the older, more distinguished men with money.

in canada it's a bunch of guys cobbling together a (NDP?!) budget, and making occasional comments on the state of the country that makes absolutely no fucking sense.

example:

from rick mercer's blog (you all remember rick mercer, right? the curly haired guy who makes fun of americans?)

". . . The honorable member from Calgary Southeast is the Conservative bright light that likes to point out that gays are allowed to get married; as long as they get married to members of the opposite sex! Stupid and talking, my favorite combination in a politician."

so while i don't know as much as, say, [info]skwerrel (who, by all rights, should BE a politician), about the technical side of politics, i still enjoy a good laugh at my country's expense.

thus, anyone interested in canadian politics, start reading the archives: http://rickmercer.blogspot.com

one more really funny snippet:

Dear former friend and Liberal campaign donor,

" . . .Our records indicate that you were once an active supporter of the Liberal Party but no longer send cheques or answer the phone when we call. Your request for a lawn sign in the event of the coming election seems to have been lost in the mail.

As you are no doubt aware a Cabinet Minister was in your area recently and dropped by your residence to speak with you directly about this situation. Unfortunately you were otherwise engaged at the time, choosing instead to lie on the floor with your family with the lights off. I understand the importance of family time and suggest you call us and tell us when an appropriate time for such a visit would be."
