I went to my appointment yesterday morning and sure enough I needed a root canal, although she said it didn't look too bad. At least it wasn't abcessed she said. :)
The way the xray showed the inner area of the tooth, she said there was the possibility that there might be more damage on the inside than what she could really tell, and therefore might have to just take the tooth. She told me to think about what I would want when I came back for the procedure. We once inside she seems to think it looked okay and that things will be alright. She just did the first part of the procedure and I go back in two weeks to finish it.
The procedure itself was nothing. It was like a prolonged cavity filling. I didn't feel a think. That is until I woke up last night and all the novacaine or whatever they used was gone. My tooth hurt like hell then. I am to take 800 mg of Ibuprofin every 6-8 hours for a couple of days and then kind of as needed. I took some when I got up and after about 6 hours it started to hurt again. Took some more at 7 hours and about and hour and a half later it is feeling better.
The only other pain, came with the bill. I didn't need to pay for the procedure yesterday, but I decided to go ahead and pay then so that the insurance people would hopefully get their act in gear sooner and get my money back to me. So annoying to have money in your insuance account, but still have to pay out of pocket first only to be reimbursed. STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, the pain of the bill, exam and procedure, came to $1147.50. OUCH.......
Now I can only hope that our insurance people do their jobs quickly and I can get reimbursed sooner than later and get my money back into my checking account.
It is so annoying to have "money" in your insurance account, but have to pay for everything out of pocket only to turn around and get reimbursed for it. We, the union, are trying to convince them to start using a debt like card. Although I am sure they will wait long enough so that they can claim it as their idea. UGH.........

I just found out last night I have a wedding to go to Saturday afternoon. I had it in my head that it was next weekend. Thank goodness I got that reminder from someone. :o

Today's WTF Moment is Brought To You By the Bonny Eagle High School Adiminstration in Maine [16 Jun 2009|11:22pm]

A Very Costly Kiss: Senior Denied Diploma
by Mike Krumboltz

For teens, there is no greater joy than graduating high school. Shaking off the shackles of education and claiming that hard-fought diploma is truly an epic day. Unfortunately, for several students at Bonny Eagle High School in Maine, their natural exuberance has led to some surprisingly serious problems.

On Friday night, when the senior class was waiting to graduate, excitement began to grow. Students bounced a large inflatable rubber duck. The noise level rose. And then came "the kiss." When called, one student walked on stage to receive his diploma and blew a kiss to his family. The school administrator, clearly not the sentimental sort, sent the student back to his seat ... sans diploma.

The seemingly harsh punishment has sent the Web all aflutter. Searches on "student denied diploma" and "bonny eagle high school" are both through the roof. Additionally, blogs and news papers are chiming in with opinions on whether or not the administration overreacted. The student's mother has given interviews and is quite upset at her son's treatment. According to an article from Fox News the outraged mother said, "A bow, a kiss to your mom is not misbehavior."

But the administrators feel they were just enforcing the rules that students agreed to. At a meeting following the debacle, school superintendent Suzanne Lukas said that "if a student doesn't adhere to the expectations, then the consequences are clearly spelled out."

This isn't the first time that rambunctious (dare we say "fun"?) behavior affected a graduation ceremony at Bonny Eagle. "Four years ago we had some issues with silly string and beach balls," said Lukas.

Well, it's been a couple of weeks, but I am back. :)

Pleasant surprise in a way.
I have not been very good about my dieting, and therefore I was expecting a weight gain of significant proportions. :o
Stepped on the scale and I lost almost a pound. That's the good news. The bad news is it took me nearly 2 weeks to do that. :p

I just learned some sad news...
One of the nurses from the float staff that has occasionally worked on our station was killed over the weekend in one of several fatal accidents in our area. He was only 27 years old and a very nice young man.

In another accident that was the second in the same location in 4 days 4 people were killed.

A total of 10 people have died in car accidents in SE Minnesota as of Monday morning. :(

Well, another week and not the best of news. Blah..................

Okay, after writing the above, I went and weighed myself. Another mystery week, according to the scale I lost what I gained last week. :p
Don't get me wrong, I love losing the weight, but I hate when you really think you are going to gain because you haven't been the best and then you lose. It really screws you up mentally because you don't know what you did right. :p

Well, I guess I was right about not a good week. I gained.
Things I did wrong...
I ate WAY TOO MUCH over the weekend.
I didn't get enough walking in. Only a couple of my breaks at work, did I walk on. One time I went out to my car instead to see what was wrong with it. Another I went to visit a friend. Hmm, what other excuses did I have...
With my station closed, most of my nights are spent sitting with confused patients. So I don't get much movement in spending most of my 8 hours sitting. UGH.....

I am not going to hold my breath this week for a good weigh in.

I have not done much walking this week, and I did way too much eating over the weekend. I really should just stay away from pizza when I am dieting. I can't control myself around that stuff.

Ever have one of those, What Was I Thinking moments? [18 Apr 2009|03:12am]
[ mood | crazy ]

I just did tonight. The director from Dracula is currently directing Pirates of Penzance at another theater.
Apparently one of the actors dropped out and he was wondering if I would be interested in taking over. Just a small part. It is a cop that is recruited to play Queen Victoria to fool the pirates. Hmm, I wonder if I will have to shave my beard? :p
Here's the kicker, the show opens May 1st.
I said, Yes.
WHAT WAS I THINKING??????????????

Kind of like my own little WTF moment. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, it was almost a no gain.
I have about 5 months to lose around 50 pounds before my vacation. Is it doable?
A friend gave me a cheapy little pedometer and I have wore it the last couple of times I have walked on my breaks at work and it shows that I have going just over 1.6 miles in a half hour. Not too bad I guess. :)

Facebook, YouTube at work make better employees: study
Thu Apr 2, 1:08 am ET

MELBOURNE (Reuters Life!) – Caught Twittering or on Facebook at work? It'll make you a better employee, according to an Australian study that shows surfing the Internet for fun during office hours increases productivity.

The University of Melbourne study showed that people who use the Internet for personal reasons at work are about 9 percent more productive that those who do not.

Study author Brent Coker, from the department of management and marketing, said "workplace Internet leisure browsing," or WILB, helped to sharpened workers' concentration.

"People need to zone out for a bit to get back their concentration," Coker said on the university's website (www.unimelb.edu.au/)

"Short and unobtrusive breaks, such as a quick surf of the Internet, enables the mind to rest itself, leading to a higher total net concentration for a days' work, and as a result, increased productivity," he said.

According to the study of 300 workers, 70 percent of people who use the Internet at work engage in WILB.

Among the most popular WILB activities are searching for information about products, reading online news sites, playing online games and watching videos on YouTube.

"Firms spend millions on software to block their employees from watching videos, using social networking sites or shopping online under the pretence that it costs millions in lost productivity," said Coker. "That's not always the case."

However, Coker said the study looked at people who browsed in moderation, or were on the Internet for less than 20 percent of their total time in the office.

"Those who behave with Internet addiction tendencies will have a lower productivity than those without," he said.
