[19 May 2004|02:31am] |
Once again I have returned to the not so barren not so wasted land that is Minnesota. It’s here, if a little hot. I feel like I’m in a bit of a lull at the moment. I’ve heard word that there is a big hyper technologies conference in London next week, that I intend to check out, so between now and them, I’m not getting involved in too much. I’ve applied to a couple of the most interesting jobs I’ve found, but am leave most of the real grunt work for when I get back. Mostly just typing away on my computer and helping out my mom.
Hyper technologies (or hypertech), for those of you who do not know, are those technologies have not yet been deemed read for the general public. You know, things like cars that fun on water and faster than light drives. It’s not easy to find out about these sorts of conferences, let alone get invited to them, but I know a few people in the hypertech buis.
I’ve got a couple reasons for going. First of all I might find something useful for checking on the Omicron 7 situation. (I must admit designing this hyperspace telescope is a little tougher than I though. Who would have thought?)
Also I might be able to pursue some lead that could point me in the direction of what happened to the Mobius crystal, as it has proven useful in both time, and dimensional travel, two classic hypertechs.
Oh and incase I didn’t mention it I’ve graduated. Funny hat and everything. If you want you can read more about it at www.matthewjhanson.com, the official website of Matthew J. Hanson.

| Still here |
[13 May 2004|10:46pm] |
Sorry I haven’t updated recently. I will be trying to update more often from now on.
Anyway, I’m still in the nebulous time between finishing school, and starting in the real world. I’ve sent off a couple of job applications, but don’t know anything for sure yet. I’m still convinced that it will all magically turn out for the best.
I talked to the Hamato ninjas about why they are attacking me. Funny story. Remember that whole Mobius crystal thing. You know got it from a mysterious old man, used it to build a time machine, one of my teachers stole it to travel to an alternate dimension? Yeah, well I returned it to one of their elders (it was rightfully theirs), but apparently he disappeared shortly afterwards, along with the crystal. The just assumed I had something to do with it. Well you know what happens when you assume.
That’s all for now. I’ll try to update again the weekend maybe.
Peace out yo.

| School's out forever |
[08 May 2004|03:57am] |
I’m done.
I mean I’ve kind of been done for a while, but now I’m really done. No more school for me. No more undergrad anyway. Grad school is not quite around the corner, but maybe a possibility down the road someplace.
Today, I turned in my directing evaluation, as well as my take home final for nuke. I think I did all right on both. (I hope).
In other news I’ve started designing a hyperspace telescope. It should enable me to instantly observe astrological information billions of light years away (read Omicron 7).
On Thursday I was attacked by the Hamato ninjas again. I really don’t understand why. As soon as I can figure out a way to get in touch with their leaders I’m going to ask “what’s the deally-o?”
Also I beat Knights of the Old Republic again. This time following the path of the dark side. Bastilla really is no less annoying when she’s evil.

| 24 hours to write |
[04 May 2004|03:10am] |
I meant to update my journal yesterday, but I just had so much work to do. I mean those video games won’t play themselves.
Over the weekend there was a rather fine event, known as the 24-hour play-writing contest. Basically we got the first two lines of a play, and we had 24 hours in which to write it and bring it to a staged reading.
The competition was fierce, but in the end I was able to emerge the victor. I attribute it mainly to the fact that I worked an X-box in to the script. (Alas we could not Giggle Bone, the sponsor of the event, to actually by one as a prop) (by the way, I had planned to put it in the green room after I was done, not use it for my own self).
I was correct about the current technology not suiting my needs in terms of investigating Omicron 7. I’ve got a couple of ideas for how to fix this, but currently I’m just in the brainstorming stages.
Also I visited Señor T-Bone, because he needed some attention. He played some fetch. It was fun.

| Still here |
[30 Apr 2004|12:16am] |
Hello all, sorry for the long absence I’ve been pretty busy here recently. I’ll try to fill you in on what’s been going on recently.
First of all Monday through Wednesday of this week were the final performances of my project for directing class. I thought it went quite well, though the true test will probably come tomorrow, when the class and teacher give feed back. (Assuming it goes well I credit it all to the best rehearsal game ever).
In my other school news, hanging out with Steve Wright is still Stevetastic, and Nuke has become a great deal more fun ever since the Alternate Universe Professor Asmodicus started teaching. I actually feel like I’m learning something.
I’ve also borrowed some radio telescope information from the area around Omicron 7, but I fear that the currently level of technology will not be sufficient to meet my needs. I guess I’ll just have to invent something.
Oh, and I intend to write a play over the weekend. I don’t really know what it will be about yet, but I’m not going to let that stop me.
That’s all for now. Feel free to visit www.matthewjhanson.com, the official website of Matthew J. Hanson.

| Back from DC |
[19 Apr 2004|02:55am] |
I’ve returned from DC, and hopefully that means that my journal updates will be getting back to a regular schedule.
This might be a longish one, so I will try to some up the important stuff first.
I did not win the 10-minute play competition, but I did win the battle against the Blaxion from Omicron 7.
Okay, the rest of it is kind of boring. You can skip it if you want to.
Overall the conference was a pleasant experience. There were a lot of workshops, which were all interesting to one degree or another. Some were a bit long. My wife of 20 years alas could not be with me this time, but she was with me in spirits. Also there were plenty of other cute girls. On the less positive side I felt sorry for the directors, and they way it was made clear to them that they were unimportant. Also the script that the judges of the competition received was missing a page, through no fault of my own. Sigh...
The Blaxion incident was a bit messy. I am not entirely certain how it traveled from the Amazon to Washington DC, or why it started to go on a rampage at the Lincoln Memorial, but luckily I had brought along my giant robot suit, so I could do battle with it. My main regret is that I was forced to bludgeon the Blaxion using the Washington Monument. It probably was not the best thing for it, but at the time I figured it’s what old George would have wanted.
Also I am troubled by the Blaxion’s presence as a whole. Interstellar travel is not usually taken lightly. I have a strange feeling that this Blaxion will not be an isolated incident.
Anyway check out the recently updated www.matthewjhanson.com

| Happy Birthday |
[05 Apr 2004|04:31am] |
I got a rather pleasant surprise this evening, when my roommate and a few other friends threw me a 3/4 birthday party. My normal birthday occurs over summer vacation, and my half birthday over the winter one, so this is about the only time I have ever celebrated a birthday at school. In addition to a lovely cake, made by certain lovely, yet romantically attached, females, my roommate got my the complete Firefly on DVD. (Which incidentally is the same gift I got him).
In other news, I think I have found something that matches the description of that monster down in South America. I found something called a Balxion, which is apparently native to Omicron 7. Now what a six-legged acid-spitting fuzzy turtle sort of things from half way across the galaxy is doing on earth, I have no idea, but I intend to find out.

| That chupa-thingy |
[31 Mar 2004|05:03am] |
I had my first rehearsal for the play I’m directing on Monday, and I think it went quite well. Each time I read over the script I like it better, there are some many subtle details that come out with each reading.
Also I thought I would look into those monster reports that I heard about down in South America. I ran a check of the description against every known animal on the planet earth, including all the crypto ones, and so far the best match I’ve found is the chupacabra, but even that’s only a 40%. Maybe tomorrow I’ll try looking at extinct species, and then if that still comes up empty, I’ll go for the extraterrestrials.

| Here there be monsters |
[29 Mar 2004|01:22am] |
This weekend was rather entertaining. They have a thing down here called 24 hour improv, where the improv troupe puts on a show, then puts on another show 24 hours later. The only catch being that they can’t sleep in between. It was entertaining to say the least. If only it hadn’t been for the obnoxious drunk guy who thought what he had to say was funny.
I also saw Chelonia, Beloit’s dance concert. It was quite good. I highly recommend it, though Sunday was the last showing, so you would need a time machine to see it.
Speaking of time machines, I checked on Señor T-Bone on Saturday. He’s doing well. The funny thing is, that while I was in a nearby village, I heard the locals talking about a monster that lived in the forest. I hope Señor T-Bone will be alright.
Oh, and yes I know Señor T-Bone is not the monster that they are talking about, because the description sounded nothing like a triceratops.
Also, be sure to check out www.matthewjhanson.com, the official, and recently updated, website of Matthew J. Hanson.

| Today freaken' rocked |
[26 Mar 2004|04:24am] |
Today was a good day. Why? I’ll tell you.
First of all I slept until one o’clock.
Also choir went better, and I got to play some Dungeons and Dragons. Alas I still cannot cast magic missile.
Then I had callbacks, which I also thought went rather well. There are a lot of talented actors at Beloit College. I feel pretty confident that I’ll be able to cast my play well. Tomorrow will begin the bitter argument process, where directors battle to the death over who gets which actor. Let’s see how it goes.
The only less good thing about today, is that I got attacked by ninjas _again_. The weird thing is, that these ninjas were from the Hamato clan, who I always thought were good guys. The all escaped (after I defeated them naturally), but I was able to plant tracking beacon on one, which I’m going to follow up on over the weekend.
Oh, I should also see hom Señor T-Bone is doing.
All for now, in the meantime feel free to visit www.matthewjhanson.com, the official website of Matthew J. Hanson.

| You too can be a star |
[24 Mar 2004|02:49am] |
So remember way back when, when I told about how the Old Ninja Master form the Hamato clan wanted his Mobius crystal back? Well after traveling through the alternate dimension, I kind of forgot.
Well he showed up again today. We talked for a while, and gently, but firmly reminded me that I was supposed to return the crystal. We both snuck into the Chapin sub-basement and got it back. So no he is happy, though I’m not sure I’ll be able to travel through time ever again.
In other news we’re currently having auditions for my directing class. Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, with call backs on Thursday. If there’s any Beloiters reading, you should audition, especially if you possess only a single X chromosome.
Not to much else, if you feel like it you can visit www.matthewjhanson.com, the official website of Matthew J. Hanson.

| Eh... |
[19 Mar 2004|02:45am] |
Sorry I haven’t been updating recently. I guess I’ve just been in the dulls a bit recently. Schools still doing what its always doing, and there hasn’t been any robots or aliens or strange crystals around either.
I finished watching the first season of West Wing. I guess that about the most exciting news I’ve got. Umm... yeah. I’ll try to have more later.

| No more break... ever |
[15 Mar 2004|04:06am] |
Well, I fear that break is done, and it was not all that productive of a break at that.
Things that I got done while on break included: audition for a singing group, create some tab for my pirate rock bad, see the revival of a play that I once acted in, perfect cold fusions, play poke, and find my old Unicron Transformer.
Things that I did not get done, but had hoped to include: audition for the Guthrie, write a play, finish a short story, invent a perpetual motion device, win at poker, get a head start on my reading, find job where people pay me money just because they like my smile.
I guess it could have been worse. Still didn’t feel very productive though.
Oh also I updated www.matthewjhanson.com, the official website of Matthew J. Hanson.

| Still on break |
[10 Mar 2004|12:06am] |
Break is pretty nice. I’m almost halfway done, oddly enough. I don’t feel like I’ve gotten much done yet, though I still have time.
On the bright side I have been introduced to the wonderful world that is Firefly. I’ve only seen the first four episodes so far, but I must say I approve.
Other than that, not much going on. No ninjas. No robots. No evil twins. It kind of worries me.

| I'm baaaack |
[08 Mar 2004|12:10am] |
Well I must say that was an interesting little adventure. This is Matthew J. Hanson back from the alternate dimension. As I relayed via MJH-12000, I was in an alternate dimension ruled by an evil version of myself. I tried for a little bit to dethrone myself, but I’ve realized that miss being at home.
The problem was that I wasn’t sure how to get home. As you probably know, I came through an interdimensional transwarp gate created by Professor Asmodicus. I did not have a chance to study the technology, so I don’t think I could have replicated it. Then when fighting robot ninjas at were very similar to my own design, it occurred to me that this dimension might also have a Professor Asmodicus, who also has a transwarp gate. As it turns out he did, and so now I’m back again. Also the alternate Asmodicus is here too. I’m still not sure where the original is.
In other news, I’m back in Minnesota for my last spring break ever. Pretty weird eh? Back on Saturday I struck the set for the American Plan. Fortunately it was a pretty easy strike. Did you know that verbs whose tense shifts are shown by an internal vowel changes (i.e. strike, struck) are called strong verbs? Bet you didn’t. Verbs show shifts with suffixes are weak verbs.
I wonder if someday the weak verbs will get tired of being oppressed, and unite to overthrow the strong verbs.

| Bureku desu! |
[05 Mar 2004|10:35pm] |
The past couple days have been pretty good. I think the workshopping of the play went pretty well. The audience got what I was going for, and most of the problems were things that I was already aware of.
I’m back in Beloit by the way, though I will be back in Minnesota by the next time I update. Ah the beauty of a 4.5 hour car ride.
Oh, I got a couple more messages form the alternate dimension today. Apparently Matthew J. is unhappy that I haven’t been plugging the website at the end of the posts. That, and he’s also a little unhappy about having super robot ninjas attack him every five minutes. Apparently their based on a design that he also once envisioned, but never built because he was worried that they would fall into the wrong hands.
And now they are.
Well, that’s all the news from here.
If you feel like it you can visit www.matthewjhanson.com, the official website of Matthew J. Hanson.

| I don't think we're in Beloit anymore |
[03 Mar 2004|03:00pm] |
Got another message. This one is a little more legible:
“Hell0. Matthew J. Hanson here. In case my las7 message didn’t qUite make cents, I’ve been tranSPorted to a dimnsion of 3vil. Well, the dimension it’self isnt 3vil, its just rooled by an 3vil dictator, who happens to be named Matthew J. Hanson. Yez it’s my eVil double form another dimension? I”ve joined the resist@nce hear. I’m also trying to find away to get back home. Proffessor Asmodicus disappeared just after arriving.
“Oh yeah, prof. Asmodicus builtt a interdimensional transwarp device using the Mobius Crystal. I have no idea why, but I fo11owed him thr3w.
“Chek you latter. – MJH”
In other news, I am in Minnesota. “But MJH-12000,” you say, “didn’t you just finish telling us a couple post ago, that you can’t go find disappear because you need to pretend to be Matthew J?” Well yes. You see Matthew is having a play workshopped at the playwright’s center this Wednesday. He was planing to go back for the day before the unfortunate incident with the traswarp gateway, so I’m here still doing my duty. I’ll let you know how the workshop goes. Later.

| interesting, but it's not that interesting |
[01 Mar 2004|02:19am] |
I got a strange e-mail today. It went a little something like this:
TRpD i|\| P@RalLeLl DiM|\|sn. g00d=eVIL. 3Vi1=GooD. m0r3 s0on. –MJH
I think that speaks for itself.
In other news, the weekend was all right. I saw Beloit’s latest play, "The American Plan." It started out a little slow, but once it picked up it was a fie piece of theatrical goodness. If I go again, I’ll probably sit someplace else. I mean the back of LKB’s head is interesting, but it’s not that interesting.

| Interdimensional transwarp gateway found |
[27 Feb 2004|01:56am] |
Hello, this is still the MJH-12000, lifelike robot duplicate of Matthew J. Hanson. On the bright side I now have a fairly good idea of where Matthew J. Hanson is. On the less bright side, I’m not sure knowing does me any good.
Having entered the Chamberlain subbasement, (thanks to an anonymous tip from our reader), I was soon able to discover an interdimensional transwarp gateway. I fired it up to analyze the energy signature, and found that it matched identically with the signature detected just before Matthew J. disappeared. In other words, Matthew J. has been transported to an alternate dimension.
Many of you are probably wondering why I don’t just follow him in. You see, that would go contrary to my programming. The whole point is that I am supposed to act as a double for Matthew J. Hanson when he is otherwise indisposed, say in an alternate dimension. If I were to leave this reality as well, there would be not Matthew J. like entity, and people would start to worry.
In other news today was another nice day. I slept in until two thirty for a rather auspicious start. Class was good. Watched some directing projects. No Nuke (presumably because professor Asmodicus is also in another dimension). Then I sang, played some DnD, and had another 10-minute play meeting, (which was better attended, because I told people it was on the right day this time).
All in all, it went well.
