Thought that I should update now that I'm back from my trip to Venice. We stayed in the lovely Hotel Messner for a week and didn't want to come home. The only draw back was the mossy's who were out in full force. They don't usually go after me, but one particularly vicious member of the species has given me a bite that has been itchy for a week now. Stupid pointless critters.
It's very easy to walk around Venice, no roads it's all water. So my friends and I walked our feet off. When I woke up on Friday morning I felt very fit, tired, but very exercised. That's a nice feeling as I wasn't really exercising at all. Especially with all the pasta, massive pizzas, wine and heaps of gorgeous ice cream. We had an ice cream every day, but still not enough to test out all the flavours. My favourite was a combination of cherry and amaretto. I also ate the biggest meat pizza I've ever seen in my life. Even the pizzas in Rome were smaller.
I've had pigeons on my head in San Marco's Square, that was fun. They'll come to you anyway, even if you aren't feeding them. All you have to do is stick your arm ot and they'll come and perch, but if you buy a bag of seed from the seed sellers, they know, they swarm all over you before you've had a chance to open the packet up! I hope that Hannah's pictures of me being swarmed are good, I want copies!!
I didn't find it as expensive as I thought it would be, but tehn we didn't have meals in pricey places or have coffee in San Marco's. Here's a tip. Go to the Museum Correr which has displays on the history of Venice. It's in the corner of San Marco's, but it has a Museum Cafe which overlooks the square. You can have a normal priced coffee and look out of the window over the square and the pigeons! Cunning plan.
Bought some blue pasta and three new necklaces. They sell a lot of glass in Venice, so they're all glass. I have a glass ring now as well, which feels a little odd and it's very bulky, but I love it.
We went to so many museums and churches. Venice has whole bunches of churches. I find the whole thing very amusing (as I'm a rampaging atheist) and I had a great time Saint Spotting. Maybe that's only amusing if you're there!
There's still loads to see, we didn't do any of the island excursions or see any of the right hand side of Venice. I'd happily go back there. It's so gorgeous, painfully attractive, very romantic. *sigh* I need some ice cream.
Really not that happy to be back, seriously considering buying the ppaer on Friday to check the small ads. I checked the Uni web site yesterday, but there was nothing there that leapt out at me. I've been here for three months today and I still feel up in the air and don't know what's going on. The whole deal with Theatre List Reallocations seems to be part of my job that nobody knows enough about to explain to me. I had a meeting with an odd chap this morning who has worked in phones for years and is now dealing with Theatres. What an odd leap. He wasn't very helpful. Very old school teachery, didn't want to listen or hear the answers to his questions. So, although I'm not in tears like I was the day before I went on holiday, I'm no happier to be here.
I did buy the Buffy and Angel box sets yesterday and watched Buffy up to "Lies My Parents Told Me". Then Justin came home from work and I couldn't fit another one in. Hopefully I can squeeze one in tonight before he gets back, he's not working tonight. That will depend which bus I manage to catch! :)
