The quiet of the dungeons was only broken by two things: Professor Snape's quill and Blaise's humming. She was adding porcupine quills to a batch of Boil Cure Potion for the first year Potions classes after having taken it off the heat. She was in a good mood...far too good of a mood, according to the logical part of her mind, but at least she knew the explanation for that. Her mind kept straying back to her dreams from the last two nights. Obviously the second dose of potion had been more than sufficient. It took hardly anything now for her to start smiling, and images from her dreams kept coming back to her.... Suddenly, she realized that Professor Snape had stopped writing and his eyes were boring into the back of her head. "Yes, Professor," she asked, turning around. "Miss Zabini, as relieved as I am that you are no longer scowling at every potion you make," he said sternly, although he did not look any more angry than usual, "please refrain from humming in my presence. Or, if you absolutely cannot help it, at least attempt to pick a key and stay with it." She smirked at him and turned back to her cauldron. Her humming was perfectly in tune...why did everyone always comment on that? It must be some sort of conspiracy. As she continued to work, Blaise thought more and more about her dream the night before. Ten minutes later she was lost in her own world again while she bottled the potion....Professor Snape cleared his throat and she turned around, startled. Professor Snape's hand held his wand loosely in front of him, resting on his desk. "You were humming again, Miss Zabini, and it was no more in tune now than it was before." Blaise opened her mouth to insist that her humming was always in tune, but no sound came out. She narrowed her eyes at Professor Snape, the corner of his mouth almost definitely twitching in supressed amusement. Almost. Bloody Silencing Charms, she thought to herself as she went back to bottling the potion. |
